KINGSTON, R.I. – The Patriots brought home 10 medals today, bringing the championship total to 19.
The men and women finished in 2nd with 132.5 and 116 points.
Jarett Flaker won the gold in the 400m with a time of 48.62 to secure the first medal for Mason. Daniel Adu finished in 4th in the same event (49.52). In the women's 400m, KellyAnn Downer placed 4th (57.38).
Freshman Micah Jones sprinted to the finish line to take the gold in the 60m (6.84) and was named the Male Most Oustanding Rookie Performer of the tournament. Paul McClain snatched the bronze in the 500m race (1:05.59).
In the men's 800m, Micah Harris placed 4th (1:55.57) and in the 1k James Seal earned 4th (2:27.97). Junior Isaiah Carter won the silver in the 200m (21.79) with teammate Jarett Flaker coming in 5th (22.37).
Juniors Daniel Adu, Isaiah Carter, Edward Deskins and Jarett Flaker won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:19.47.
In the women's 3k, Annabelle Eastman was able to earn the bronze (9:37.28). Cason Gardner also won the bronze in the men's high jump at 2.05m. Grace Furlong and Dhiambi Otete placed 2nd in 3rd in the women's triple jump (11.91m, 11.82m) with Kristen Alleyne and Kelsey Sebwe in 5th and 6th (11.75m, 11.74m).
Cason Gardner took the gold in the men's heptathlon with 5,340 points. That is the second-most points ever by a Mason athlete in this event.
"It was a very positive championship meet for both squads - both teams improved their places and point totals from a year ago," said Coach Gerard. There were significant contributions from all event groups. With so many newcomers, it was many of our athletes first taste of the intensity of a championship meet, which is always eye opening. They all handled it very well. This was, overall, a very good springboard into the outdoor season."
