RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason University men's tennis team fell in its A-10 opener to preseason A-10 favorite VCU on Sunday morning at the VCU Tennis Center.
 
The Patriots picked up a point at No. 6 singles, where sophomore Niza Simunyola knocked off the Rams' Grey Voelzke in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Simunyola is now 3-1 in dual singles this season and 14-4 in overall singles play.
 
Elsewhere, freshman Monil Lotlikar battled in his match at No. 4 against Sam Baumgartner. He dropped the first set, 4-6, but responded with an impressive 6-0 performance in the second to tie it up. The third set went to a tiebreaker, where Lotlikar was edged, 10-7.
 
The Patriots return to action Saturday (Feb. 25) with a home contest vs. Mt. St. Mary's. The 6:45 p.m. contest will be played at Burke Racquet & Swim Club.
