This is the Patriots first game since Feb. 4, as last weekend's game against NJIT was postponed due to Covid-19 related issues inside the Mason program.
The Patriots are coming off a productive weekend at the DC Challenge. They dominated the then ranked #14 Lewis Flyers 3-0 to snatch their first win. In the second game, they battled hard against Purdue Fort Wayne just to come up short in a five-set thriller.
Lucas Little was named EIVA defensive player of the week, tallying a total of 19 kills, 14 block assists, two digs and a service ace.
The Patriots will look to build upon their team chemistry as
Jason Ashenfelter has now established himself as the other middle blocker starter alongside
Lucas Little.
Omar Hoyos and
Jack Bolz lead the team in kills with 96 each, 2.91 per set. Freshmen
Georgi Zahariev continues to set for Mason, as he has tallied 268 set assists (8.12 per set). On the defensive side,
Paul Wyszynski leads 58 digs (1.76), with
Omar Hoyos close behind with 50 (1.52).
Scouting King University (8-8)
The Tornado have been coached by Ryan Booher since 2010. He has led them to one Conference Carolina Championship title and one NCAA tournament appearance.
Warren Davis is first on the team in kills (189/3.20) with Jackson Carroll next (151/2.80). Jack Sarnowski leads the Tornado in set assists with 453 (9.85). Justin Sawyer leads the defense with 99 kills while Warren Davis had 97.
The Patriots lead the all-time series 2-0 against the Tornado with their last victory coming in 2017 by a score of 3-0.
