FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team is set to travel to the Windy city for a midweek match-up with the A-10's newest member, Loyola Chicago.
Both teams are coming off of tough home losses, with the Patriots falling 78-57 to a UMass team that is receiving votes in the most recent USA Today Coaches Poll. The Ramblers fell to St. Bonaventure by the slimmest of margins, 48-47, on Saturday.
PATRIOT POINTS
- Mason fell to the Massachusetts Minutewomen, 78-57, on Sunday afternoon inside EagleBank Arena, moving it to 5-8 in conference play
- The Patriots were led offensively by seniors Nalani Kaysia and Sonia Smith, who both scored a team high 13 points
- Smith also dished out a team-high four assists while Kaysia was just one rebound off of another double- double with a team-high nine boards while registering a career-high four blocks. The four blocks bring Kaysia's season total to 29, the most since the 2018-19 season when Jacy Bolton had 35.
- For the second-straight game, freshman Nekhu Mitchell set a new career-high in points, scoring nine points on 4-7 shooting while pulling down four rebounds.
- Mason currently has the fifth-best scoring defense in the A-10, limiting opponents to 61.9 ppg. The Patriots rank third in the league with 13.6 offensive rebounds.
- Taylor Jameson ranks 19th in the A-10 with 12.1 points/game 17th with 1.2 steals/game. Nalani Kaysia ranks sixth with 1.1 blocks/game and ninth with 8.1 rebounds/ game. Paula Suarez ranks 17th with 2.9 assists/game
SCOUTING THE RAMBLERS
Loyola Chicago went 5-8 in non-conference play to begin the season. After the Ramblers opened up the A-10 with a 60-47 win over Saint Louis, they have struggled through league contests with 11-straight losses, with their last two losses by two or less points.
Maya Chandler leads the Ramblers with 10.1 points and 1.2 steals per game so far this season. Under the basket, Sitori Tanin is pulling down a team-best 5.7 rebounds/game while contributing 8.9 points per contest as well as a team-high 18 blocks.
Kira Shivers paces the offense with a team-best 2.5 assists per game while also contributing 4.4 points and 1.0 steals. Second on the team in scoring, rebounding, assisting and steals is Sam Galanopoulos with 9.7 points, 3.8 rebounds. 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
