SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The George Mason women's basketball team was unable to overcome an early first-quarter deficit and fell to Saint Louis on the road, 68-56.
For the third-straight game, senior
Nalani Kaysia registered a double-double, posting a career-high 22 rebounds to go along with 13 points and three blocks. The 22 rebounds are the most by an individual in a single game in the A-10 this season.
Despite a season-high 75 attempts from the field, Mason was limited on the inside by the Billikens and forward Brooke Flowers, who registered 11 blocks and the first triple-double in school history.
The Patriots (11-12, 4-6) were unable to get the offense going in the first, falling behind 14-4 in the first 10 minutes. They rebounded in the second however, fighting all the way back to take the lead with 2:18 left in the second behind four-straight points from senior
Jazmyn Doster. The two teams traded points at the end of the stanza and SLU lead 28-26 at the break.
Mason was trailed by just two at the media timeout, but the Billikens (8-16, 5-5) were able to end the quarter on a 10-4 run by holding the Patriots to 0-6 from the floor to lead 47-39 with one quarter remaining.
Despite a forcing five turnovers and limiting Saint Louis to just 16.7% from deep, the Patriots were unable to limit the Billikens in the paint and from the free throw line. Mason was able to hit three shots from beyond the arc down the stretch, but the comeback fell short in the fourth.
