EMMITSBURG, Md. – In a special game for head coach
Vanessa Blair-Lewis, she picked up her 350
th career-win as the George Mason women's basketball team dominated Mount St. Mary's for four quarters en route to a 47-point victory.
The 30 points are the fewest by an opponent since Jan. 12, 1991 when the Patriots (8-1) held UNC Wilmington to 28 points in a 53-28 CAA victory.
Additionally, the Patriots' 47-point win is the most on the Mount's home court since another Mount St. Mary's alum, Agnus Berenato '80, led her Pitt Panthers to a 51-point victory in 2007.
Five Patriots scored in double-figures, led by a career-high matching 15 from freshman
Kennedy Harris. Also pacing the high-powered offense were
Taylor Jameson and Paula Suárez, who matched their own career-highs of six assists each.
It was all Mason from the get-go, as it limited the Mount (3-5) to just six points in the opening stanza. Led by 12 points from freshman
Kennedy Harris, the Patriots shot a blistering 47% from the floor and 50% from three-point range to lead 28-6 after the first.
The Patriots continued their strong defensive stance in the second quarter, holding the Mountaineers without a three-pointer through the first 20 minutes. After a layup by the Mount with just under two minutes remaining, Mason closed the half on a 6-0 run to stretch the lead to 28 at the halftime break.
Mason opened the third quarter on a 10-point run, led by six points from
Sonia Smith, including a four-point play to force a Mount St. Mary's timeout. The Mount was able to connect on their first three of the game, but a stifling Mason defense still limited it to just 25% shooting as it extended the lead with one quarter remaining.
Sophomore
Page Greenburg highlighted an electric offensive performance for the Patriots in the fourth quarter, hitting four shots from deep to set a new career-high of 12 points and score over half of Mason's points in the quarter. Three other Patriots hit three-pointers in the quarter as Mason rolled to its second-largest margin of victory this season.
