GREENVILLE, N.C. – The George Mason women's basketball team suffered its' second loss of the season on Monday night, falling to East Carolina, 65-44.
The Patriots (8-2) were limited by ECU on offense, as the game marked the first this season that no players scored in double-figures. Mason was led by
Ta'Viyanna Habib, who scored nine points to go with a season-high three steals.
Kennedy Harris led a strong defensive effort by Mason with a game and career-high five steals. The Patriots forced the Pirates (6-3) into a season-high 27 turnovers, compared to their own 24, marking the first time this season that ECU committed more turnovers than its' opponent.
Trailing 30-14 after the first half, Mason was able to get its' offense going. After a timeout at the 4:46 mark, the Patriots went on a quick 13-4 run, led by three three-pointers from three different Patriots to cut the lead to 12. However, the Pirate defense stifled the comeback scoring five-straight points off of turnovers to pull back ahead by 17.
The Pirates continued their strong defensive effort to open the fourth quarter, going on a 14-0 run to force a Mason timeout. The Patriots flipped the script in the back-half of the quarter to finish strong, holding ECU scoreless over the last 5:53 of the game and scoring 10 points of their own to provide the final tally.
