BALTIMORE, Md. – The George Mason women's basketball team extended their unbeaten streak to seven on Sunday afternoon with a dominating 70-38 win over Coppin State on the road.
The Patriots (7-0) had 11 players register multiple points, led by senior
Sonia Smith who tallied 10 points, the seventh time in as many games she has scored in double-figures.
Taylor Jameson and
Zahirah Walton were just behind her with nine points each.
It was all Mason from the get-go, as it scored the opening points and quickly jumped out to a six-point lead with two points from four players at the media timeout. Eight of Mason's 15 first quarter points were second chance, as
Jazmyn Doster pulled down five rebounds and the Patriots pulled down six offensive.
Walton led the charge in the second quarter, leading the Patriots with six points as they tallied a game-high 22. Leading by 10, Walton scored all six points to push the lead to 16 at the media timeout and Mason led 31-15. Jameson closed the half with a floating jumper to push the lead to 19 as Mason led the Eagles 37-18.
The Eagles (3-4) found a bit of a groove in the third quarter with strong defense, limiting the Patriots to just 13 points. However, the Patriots also locked down on defense, limiting Coppin State to just 18% from the field in the stanza, stifling any chance at a comeback.
The Mason bench exploded in the fourth quarter, led by sophomore
Amy O'Hara who set career-highs in points (8) and rebounds (6) in 10 minutes of work. After A Coppin State three-pointer with 5:39 remaining, Mason held the hosts scoreless for almost five minutes as it built a 33-point lead on two
Jada Brown free throws.
Mason limited Coppin State to just 10 fourth-quarter points as it scored just 38 points, a season-low by an opponent. The Patriots scored 70 points for the sixth time this season en route to the 70-38 victory on the road.

- Defensively, Taylor Jameson matched her career-high of three steals while Jazmyn Doster registered a season-high two blocks
- The Mason defense also limited Coppin State to just three made three-pointers, the fewest by an opponent this season
- The Patriots converted a season-high 85% of their free throws (17-20), led by a 4-4 from freshman Kennedy Harris
- Paula Suárez led the Patriots with a game-high three assists
