FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team is back in action for the season's first installment of the Revolutionary Rivalry when it travels to D.C. to take on George Washington on Wednesday evening.
Last season, the Revolutionaries completed the series sweep with a 3-2 win in the RAC and a 3-1 win at home. All-time, George Washington holds a 21-8 record over Mason, but the teams have split the last 10 meetings 5-5.
The last time out, Mason dropped two matches to the Saint Louis Billikens, 3-2 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday.
Ewelina Gacek had a solid weekend, posting her first fourth career double-double and the first of the season with 15 kills and a career-high 12 digs on Friday.
PATRIOT POINTS
- Camille Larkin had an efficient weekend on offense, matching her career-high of nine kills on Friday and following it up with eight kills on 10 attempts for a .800 clip for an overall hitting percentage of .696.
- Larkin's .383 clip on the season is good for second overall in the conference
- Chelsea Colter had a career-day on defense on Friday with eight block assists. The middle blocking pair of Larkin and Colter lead the Patriots in blocking with 55.0 and 52.0 total blocks, respectively
- Gracie Halley paced the defense with 2.75 digs/set, tallying 10 and 12 digs during the weekend. The libero has posted double-figure digs in every match this season
- As a team, Mason sits at third in the Atlantic 10 with a .211 average hitting percentage and fourth in kills (12.66/set) and assists (11.81/set)
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
George Washington evened their conference record this past weekend with two wins over Rhode Island, a team that Mason also went 2-0 against. GW also fell to American and Howard on opening weekend, but picked up a 3-1 win over Georgetown. The Revolutionaries opened A-10 play two weekends ago at Davidson, falling 3-1 and 3-0.
As a team, George Washington ranks third in the conference with 2.21 blocks per set, led by Sydney Stewart's 0.98/set (5
th, A-10) and Kelsey Watkins' 0.93/set (10
th, A-10). Watkins leads the conference in solo blocks with 18 so far in 2023.
Individually, Liv Womble and Brittany Myers lead the team with over 130 kills each. Setter Dilara Elmacioglu is the team leader in assists (265) and service aces (15) on the season. Defensively, Amina Robinson and Penelope Hiepler have both eclipsed 100 digs and Sydney Stewart leads the Revolutionaries with 51.0 total blocks.
