Patriots on the Road to Battle VCU

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team will take the short trip to Richmond this weekend for an in-state matchup with the VCU Rams.
 
Both teams are coming off of midweek victories, with Mason downing rival George Washington in straight sets at home and the Rams picking up a 3-1 win over Davidson on the road.
 
A season ago, the Patriots and Rams split a weekend series in Fairfax, with Mason downing VCU 3-0 on Friday night. VCU bounced back on Saturday however, winning the second match 3-1.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • In a strong defensive showing on Wednesday, Chelsea Colter (9) and Ewelina Gacek (6) both set career-highs in blocks as a part of a 13-block outing for the Patriots. The 13.0 total blocks are the second-most overall and the most in a three-set match this season
  • Gacek also led the Patriots with nine kills on Wednesday to push her season total to a team-best 211
  • An efficient 5-for-11 showing for Camille Larkin marked another match the junior hit over .400 on the season. She currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with a .376 clip overall and a .420 clip against conference opponents
  • Gracie Halley tallied a match-high 16 digs on Wednesday and now ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 with 3.97 digs/set
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Rams have found success during the Atlantic 10 schedule this season, boasting a 9-3 record so far, placing them third in the conference standings. VCU holds two wins each over Saint Louis, Duquesne, Davidson and Rhode Island, split two matches with Fordham, and suffered two sweeps by Loyola Chicago last weekend. Out of conference, VCU played similar opponents Radford and Georgetown, with the same win and loss result, respectively, as Mason.
 
Jasmine Knight has been a leader on both sides of the ball for the Rams, as she leads them in attacking with 217 kills at a .346 clip (5th, A-10), as well as 95 total blocks (2nd, A-10). Offensively, Parker Hartzel has tallied 192 kills at a .243 hitting percentage.
 
Defensively, Anja Kujundzic leads the team and is second in the Atlantic 10 with 5.02 digs/set. She and teammate AnnaBelle Tomei are tied with a team-leading 28 service aces on the season, and their 0.34 aces/set rank ninth in the Atlantic 10.
 
UP NEXT
Mason will take their road trip north to Pittsburgh next weekend to take on Duquesne on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.
