FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team wraps up its exhibition slate with a charity game at West Virginia on Friday night in Morgantown. Proceeds will benefit WVU Medicine Children's.

Tip-off between the Patriots and Mountaineers is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

PATRIOT POINTS
• It's the first meeting between the schools since the 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

• This season marks the first on the sidelines for new head coach Tony Skinn ('06). Skinn was a key starter on George Mason's 2006 Final Four Team and returns to his alma mater after an assistant coaching career which included stops at Seton Hall, Ohio State and Maryland.

• Skinn put together a revamped roster for the 2023-24 which includes 11 new players. Five student-athletes return from last season's team, led by senior Ronald Polite III who is a Preseason All-Atlantic 10 Third Team selection.

• The Patriots are coming off a 64-52 triumph over St. Thomas (Fla.) on Monday night in Fairfax. Mason held the Bobcats to 28.6 percent shooting and just a 2-of-21 (.095) mark from inside the arc. The Patriots turned seven steals and 18 Bobcat turnovers into a +8 edge in points off turnovers for the game.

• Mason opens the regular season at home vs. Monmouth on Nov. 6. It's the first of three-straight home games for the Green & Gold to kick off the campaign.

• Mason's nine new scholarship players include seven transfer student-athletes and two true freshmen.

• The Patriots were picked 10th in the 15-team Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll, released on Oct. 17.

• Skinn also welcomes back former teammate Lamar Butler ('06) as director of player development. Butler was the 2006 NCAA East Region Most Outstanding Player.

• The Green & Gold will look to build on last season's 20-win campaign. The Patriots went 11-7 in league play, matching program bests for A-10 wins (11) and A-10 Tournament seed (5).

• West Virginia was picked to finish ninth out of 14 teams in the 2023-24 Big 12 preseason poll. The team will be led by Preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention selection Jesse Edwards.
