FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team was downed by Davidson on Friday night in three sets.
Freshman
Caroline Rodriguez led the Patriots (6-16, 2-8) with seven kills on the night, the second-most by any player on the court.
The Patriots jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the first set, until a 13-0 run by the Wildcats (13-7, 5-5) gave them a 16-6 lead. It was strong defensive effort by the visitors during the run that brought them ahead, including four blocks, as Mason was only able to convert four kills.
Davidson was able to pull ahead early in set two, building a 12-7 lead to force a Mason timeout. The Patriots were able to stay in the set with a team-best 11 kills, including three from Rodriguez and
Camille Larkin. A kill from
Haley Graetz made the score 20-15, but that would be the closest the Patriots got and the Wildcats took set two 25-18.
Mason led first in the third set, but another run by Davidson gave it a 6-2 lead. Three Patriots notched multiple kills during the frame, but a .333 hitting percentage by the Wildcats was too much to overcome for the hosts and they cruised to the 3-0 victory.
