Women’s Volleyball Hosts Davidson Wildcats

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team continues its' homestand this weekend when it welcomes the Davidson Wildcats to Fairfax for two matches in the RAC.
 
A season ago, the Wildcats swept the Patriots twice in Davidson, bringing their win streak to five. All time, Davidson is 10-4 against Mason, including 10-3 as Atlantic 10 opponents.
 
This past weekend, Mason battled with one of the top teams in the conference, Loyola Chicago, but ultimately dropping two home matches to the Ramblers. Camille Larkin once again had a strong showing, including a career-high 10 kills on Saturday when the Patriots fell in four sets.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • After another efficient weekend, Camille Larkin continues to rank first in the Atlantic 10 with a .394 hitting percentage with 125 kills on 254 attempts with just 25 errors. Against conference opponents, she converts .477 of her swings. On Saturday against Loyola Chicago, she tallied a career-best 10 kills on 19 attempts with no errors for a .526 clip 
  • Over the weekend, libero Gracie Halley eclipsed 300 digs on the season and now leads the Patriots with 314. She ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 with 3.83 per set 
  • Nani Spaar is third in the conference with 3.39 kills/set and fourth with 3.77 points/set this season, and is second on the team with 183 total kills 
  • Damiana Bova-Ford leads the team with 359 assists on the season and is on pace to best her career-high of 392 set last season 
  • Chelsea Colter ranks among the best in the Atlantic 10 in blocking, averaging 1.00/set against conference opponents 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Davidson Wildcats are off to a solid start this season, sitting at 12-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play. The last time out, Davidson fell 3-0 to nationally-ranked Dayton in both games. The Wildcats own two wins over both Rhode Island and George Washington. Similar to Mason, Davidson fell to Loyola Chicago twice, once in three sets and once in a five-set battle.
 
On offense, Jackie Bardin (161) and Elena Garcia-Guerrios (158) lead the Wildcats in kills and kills per set. Garcia-Guerriors, a rookie outside hitter, also leads Davidson with 23 service aces on the season. Xuan Nguyen paces the attack with 400 assists, good for 6.06 per set (5th, A-10).
 
Defensively, Bella Brady leads Davidson with 346 digs and 5.01 per set, a number that puts her at second in the Atlantic 10. She is one of just two players to average over 5.00 digs/set. At the net, Kayla Davis sits atop the Davidson squad with 56.0 blocks on the season.
 
UP NEXT
Mason will wrap up their homestand with the second of two matches against local rival George Washington on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Opening serve is set for 6 p.m. at the RAC.
