Patriots Play to Home Draw Against Dayton

FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason sophomore midfielder Nicholas Prioli scored the equalizer late in the second half in the Patriots 1-1 draw against Dayton on Saturday night at George Mason Stadium.
 
The Patriots are unbeaten in their last three matches (2-0-1).
 
Mason (3-5-3, 2-3-1 A-10) fell behind Dayton (5-6-4, 2-1-3 A-10) early in the match when Flyers sophomore forward Sidike Jabateh scored his fourth goal of the season in the 13th minute.  Sophomore defender Casper Svendby picked up the lone assist on the play.
 
Rain began to fall at halftime and heavy rain continued throughout the second half.
 
In the 75th minute, Prioli found the back of the net for his second goal of the season to propel the Patriots to the result.  Graduate student Luis Maestre notched his team-leading seventh assist while senior midfielder Henry Wachsman picked up his first assist of the season.
 
Maestre is tied for the most assists in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
 
Mason junior goalkeeper Jaume Salvado (3-5-3, 2-3-1 A-10) made one save.  Dayton senior goalkeeper Dario Caetano made three saves in the match.

13' | Jabateh scored into the low-center of the net from 15 yards out.
75' | Prioli scored into the center of the net from seven yards out.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Patriots outshot the Flyers, 12-8, including a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Each team finished with two corner kicks in the match.
 
Mason sophomore midfielder Asparuh Slavov (79 minutes) led all players with four shots and had one shot on goal.  Junior forward Souley Diouf (76 minutes) finished with three shots.
 
Junior defender Javi Sanchez, sophomore defender Will Carson, sophomore midfielder Erick Kilosho, Wachsman and Maestre each played 90 minutes in the match.

The Patriots are on the road for a non-conference match against Radford on Tuesday, Oct. 17 with the opening kick scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cupp Stadium in Radford, Va.
