HAMPTON, Va. –  The George Mason women's swimming and diving team defeated Duquesne, 152-147, while the men's team leads Davidson, 102-100 after the first day of competition of their two-day dual at the Richmond Duals held at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
The Mason women's team won eight events against the Dukes, with junior
Abigail Murtaugh winning both butterfly events for the second straight year at the Richmond Duals.Â

Murtaugh touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (57.54), with senior
Leah Riley fourth (59.46) and junior
Emma Burke fifth (1:00.47). Murtaugh also won the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.03), with freshman
Megan Anderson third (2:10.39) and Burke fourth (2:11.74).

Junior
Anka Whelan took the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke (57.41) for the second straight year at the event. Freshman
Casey Tingen finished third (58.62) and classmate
Sydney Atkins was sixth (1:01.69).

The Patriots went one-two in the 200-yard backstroke with junior
Ali Tyler first (2:05.16) and freshman
Clare Smith second (2:06.56). Tingen placed fifth in the event (2:11.96).

In the 1650 freestyle, the Patriots took the top two spots with freshman
Kristen Ivey swimming to the win (17.39.58) and Tyler second (17.55.99).

Sophomore
Peyton Brehmer claimed the 50-yard freestyle (24.33) with freshman
Hannah Magdeburg third (24.79) and sophomore
Ally Yeary fourth (24.83).

In the 100-yard breaststroke, sophomore
Ainsley Toews took second (1:08.96) and freshman
Alayna Brooker was fifth (1:09.88). Toews was also second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.20), with freshman
Delainey Brandt third (2:30.39) and Brooker fourth (2:34.59).

Mason took three of the top four spots in the 100-yard freestyle with junior
Emma DeJong second (53.01), Brehmer third (53.36) and junior
Shannon Judge fourth (53.89).

In the 200-yard freestyle, DeJong finished third (1:55.30) and Judge was fifth (1:57.38).

Freshman
Sarah Dichak swam to a third-place finish (5:18.44) in the 500-yard freestyle and junior
Kylie Thompson placed fifth (5:31.55).

In the 200-yard IM, the Patriots took three of the top four spots with Whelan second (2:11.01), sophomore
Angelina Zeidan third (2:11.66) and Riley fourth (2:13.96).

The Patriots won both relay events.

The team of Whelan, DeJong, Brehman and Judge touched the wall first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.50). The combination of Tingen, Yeary, Riley and Magdeburg placed third in the event (1:49.36).

The group of Tyler, DeJong, Judge and Brehmer won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.59). The team of Dichak, Ivey, Tingen and Magdeburg finished third in the event (3:40.54).

In the three-meter diving event, junior
Emma McDonald placed second (229.30 points) and freshman
Regan Mooney was fifth (182. 35 points). In the one-meter event, McDonald was sixth (166.85 points) and freshman
Faye Souza was seventh (123.65).

On the men's side, the Patriots won six events against Davidson on day one.

Freshman
Ian Rodgers took the top spot in three individual events.

Rodgers claimed the 200-yard butterfly (1:51.41) with sophomore
Sam Rivas fourth (1:56.61). Rodgers also won the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.88) while sophomore
Jett Lee was third (1:56.98) and junior
Joe Durocher fifth (1:58.69).

Junior
Zane Roberts won the 50-yard freestyle (21.12) and junior
Logan Skiles was fifth (22.03). He also won the 100-yard freestyle (46.01) with sophomore
Joshua Hochard fourth (47.00).Â

In the 200-yard breaststroke, junior
Tyler Lentine touched the wall first for the second straight year at the Richmond Duals (2:09.23), sophomore
Jack Chapman was third (2:13.86) and freshman
Jack Graham fifth (2:15.61).

The Patriots took three of the top four spots in the 200-yard IM with sophomore
Tate Anderson first (1:53.34), freshman
Alex Crown was second (1:56.80) and Rivas fourth (1:57.14).

In the 1650-yard freestyle, Crown placed second (16:17.50), freshman
Cody Scifres fourth (16:38.79) and sophomore
Matt Quackenbush sixth (17:12.04).

In the three-meter diving event, freshman
Christian Anderson placed third (197.10 points).

The team of Roberts, Rodgers, Hochard and
Tate Anderson placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:05.57). The group of freshman
Colby Lane, Skiles, Crown and Lee placed third (3:11.77).

The combination of freshmen
Colin Murtaugh and
Ian Jones along with Durocher and Chapman placed third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.67).
The Patriots are back in action on Saturday, with the men's team continuing their dual meet against Davidson, while the Mason women's team will face Richmond at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
