DAYTON, Ohio – The George Mason women's soccer team (1-15, 1-7 A-10) lost their final road match of the season at Dayton (10-1-5, 5-0-3 A-10) by the score of 3-0 on Thursday night at Baujan Field. The Patriots drop their fifth consecutive game as the Flyers pick up their third consecutive win on their way to their tenth total win on the season.

All three goals conceded by Mason were set up by Patriot fouls in or around the penalty area, and the Flyers were able to capitalize on Mason's miscues.
Dayton's Kyra Karfonta and Marlee Taylor recorded multiple points in tonight's match. Karfonta scored two goals while Taylor scored a goal and recorded an assist.
The Flyers scored their first goal in the 13
th minute from the penalty spot. After Dayton drew a soft foul on the inside edge of the box, Kyra Karfonta lined up to take the shot from 12 yards out. Karfonta' low-lying shot went to the left side untouched.
Dayton would get another penalty in the second half, but their shot flew over the crossbar. On the season, the Flyers are 3-for-9 in penalties.
The second goal came from a Flyer free kick in the 30
th minute. The Patriots committed a foul just outside of the box in the 29
th minute, and in the next minute, free kick taker Marlee Taylor ran up on the ball and took a direct shot on goal. The shot was aimed for the same spot as Karfonta's pentalty shot from earlier, but Mason's goalkeeper
Ginny Fronk could not dive to it in time.
The last goal of the evening came five minutes later. After Mason committed a foul in their defensive third just outside of the penalty box on the left side, free kick taker Marlee Taylor sent the ball to the back right post, where Alicia Donley took one touch to center the ball back in front of the goal mouth. Kyra Karfonta connected with the cross with a right-footed one-timer from seven yards out.
The score would remain 3-0 for the rest of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore goalkeeper Selamawit Caldart came in to play the rest of the second half. The Shorewood, Wisc., native recorded five saves and prevented the Flyers from scoring with multiple quick reaction saves.
- The Patriots took four shots, with two being on goal. Shea Carroll led the Patriots in shots with two, while Mia Casciani and Molly Starner recorded one shot on goal each. The Flyers, on the other hand, recorded 27 shots with 11 on goal.
- Dayton's Batoul Reda recorded her seventh shutout of the season. She shares the conference lead in shutouts along with Loyola Chicago's Naya Lipkens and Duquesne's Maddy Neundorfer.

The Patriots will return to Fairfax this weekend to begin their final home stand, as they will host rival George Washington on Sunday, Oct. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. and can be watched on ESPN+.
