FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team returns to EagleBank Arena on Sunday to host the Duquesne Dukes at 3 p.m.
 
The Patriots are looking for their first win over the Dukes since becoming members of the Atlantic 10 conference in 2014, with their last win coming back in 1999 in Fairfax, 62-55. The two teams enter Sunday's contest sporting a 1-1 conference record. 
 
Mason picked up its' first A-10 win of the season on Thursday against St. Bonaventure, 49-44, led by nine points from freshman Jada Brown.
 
Duquesne had a strong start to the season, going 10-3 in non-conference action. They opened up A-10 play with a 70-63 road loss to Rhode Island on Saturday, Dec. 31 but bounced back with a thrilling win over Dayton, 70-69, at home on Thursday evening.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • Brown went 3-6 from the field and drilled two crucial free throws with 2.2 seconds remaining in the win against SBU for a career-high nine points. She also pulled down a rebound and notched two steals.
  • Over her last two games, senior Nalani Kaysia is averaging 12.0 rebounds and 11.0 points per game, including a career high 14 rebounds and 19 points against Dayton in the Patriots' A-10 opener.
  • Kaysia and graduate student Riley Childs both pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds against the Bonnies. The tally is a season-best for Childs and the second-straight game that Kaysia notched double-digit boards.
  • Mason dominated the rebound battle, 49-31, including 20 offensive rebounds that led to 13 second chance points. The Patriots are tied for first in the Atlantic 10 averaging 13.7 offensive rebounds per game and are ranked fourth in the conference in combined team rebounds, averaging 40.5 per contest.
  • The Patriots' defense is also holding opponents to a 39.1% efficiency from the field, good for fifth in the A-10.
 
SCOUTING THE DUKES
Five Dukes are averaging double-figure scoring so far this season, led by Tess Myers with 12.9 points per game. Myers is also the Dukes' best 3-point shooter, knocking down .397 of her attempts. Meanwhile, Megan McConnell is averaging just under a double-double, with 10.3 points and a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game. McConnell is also pacing the offense with 5.8 assists and the defense with 2.4 steals per contest.
 
As a team, Duquesne has one of the top offenses in the conference, averaging 70.3 points per game, good for third best. Their defense is also holding opponents to just a 34.8% efficiency from the field, the lowest in the Atlantic 10. The Dukes rank second in the conference with 41.9 rebounds per game and a conference-best 31.3 defensive boards.
