Omar Hoyos Receives OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award

Fairfax, Va. – George Mason's Men's Volleyball player Omar Hoyos has been awarded The OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award. OrthoVirginia is the proud sponsor of our Student Achiever Award which recognizes 10 student-athletes for not only their athletic accomplishments, but also how they perform in the classroom and in service to our community.
 
Omar is a junior who is majoring in Communications while concentrating in Journalism. He has been on the Dean's List for the past six semesters. He is second on the team in kills this season with 59 and leads the team in digs with 34.
 
A native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, he's a member of the Puerto Rico Men's National Team, where he competed in the 2022 FIVB World Championships and the 2022 Pan-American Cup. His greatest aspiration is to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
 
When he is not working hard in the classroom or on the court, Omar can be found serving his community and volunteering his time to benefit those in need. Omar's dedication to George Mason and its mission is exceptional, as he volunteers countless hours mentoring youth, assisting underprivileged families, and reading to elementary school students.
 
OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Definition:
 
The OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award has been put into place to recognize outstanding student-athletes not just for their athletic performances. The student-athlete can be recognized for anything that they have done that exceptional outside their playing field… whether it be community service, leadership on campus, consistent performance in the classroom, incredible attitude, recovering from a long injury, improvement on the field, etc.
