FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's basketball team could not complete a second-half comeback in a 79-76 loss to Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon inside EagleBank Arena.
The Patriots trailed by nine (60-51) with 10:59 remaining, but scored 20 of the next 26 points to take a 71-66 lead with 4:46 to go. Despite that surge, SJU rallied back to build a 76-72 edge with 1:42 to play and Mason could not score on three of its final four possessions.
"If we're going to become the team we want to become, we're going to have to defend and we're going to have to be disciplined," head coach
Kim English said. "In games where we don't defend, our discipline just has to go to the next level. That's executing plays offensively, not committing unwise fouls and executing to our principles consistently. We didn't do that and we didn't deserve to win. Saint Joe's deserves a ton of credit."

Josh Oduro continued his outstanding A-10 campaign with another brilliant all-around effort. The Gainesville, Va., product notched a team-high 17 points to go along with 12 rebounds, a career-high seven assists and two steals in 35 minutes. It marked his ninth double-double of the season and 18
th of his career.
Victor Bailey Jr. added 14 points and tied a season-high with four assists, while
DeVon Cooper added 12 points (4-8 FG) and four assists.
Ronald Polite III chipped in 12 points and two assists after returning from an injury which caused him to miss Wednesday's game at VCU.
Saint Joseph's shot 50 percent from the floor and held a 36-26 edge in paint scoring for the game. Mason is now 0-5 when its opponent shoots 50 percent or better this season.
Mason shot an A-10 season low 39.4 percent from the floor and committed just nine turnovers to Saint Joseph's 13. But the Hawks held a +5 (14-9) edge in points off turnovers for the game.
George Mason remains at home for the program's annual Black African Heritage Month game on Wednesday. The Patriots will play host to the University of Massachusetts at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
