Fairfax, Va.— The George Mason wrestling team will travel to Pennsylvania to open Mid-American Conference dual action against Clarion and Edinboro this weekend.
The team will be on the road for four straight road matches as part of the conference schedule. Next weekend, Mason will travel to Ohio for a tri-meet at Cleveland State with SIUE (Jan. 29).
George Mason wrestling is ranked No. 18 in the NWCA Mid-Major Wrestling poll released Jan. 13 by the coaches association. The Patriots are one of three teams in the Mid-American Conference to make the Top 20 mid-major poll. Northern Illinois is ranked No. 16 while Clarion comes in at 19. Several conference schools were among others receiving votes.
The Green and Gold (8-2) won its first eight matches of the season, its best start since the 1994-95 season before dropping two matches to ACC powerhouses Virginia and No. 8 Virginia Tech.
The dual will mark the 9th meeting between each of the two MAC schools. Both schools were members of the Eastern Wrestling League with Mason and each own a 5-3 edge in the all-time series. The Golden Eagles have won four of the last five, including last year's match 22-15 on Feb. 5 at Mason.
The Patriots won the match last season against Edinboro, 22-12 and have won three of the last four dual with the Fighting Scots.
