Patriots Host Colonials for MLK Day on CBSSN

FAIRFAX, Va. - In the latest installment of the Revolutionary Rivalry, the Patriots and Colonials will meet for a nationally televised game on CBS Sports Network at 12 p.m on MLK Day.
 
The meeting is the 44th in program history. Mason holds a slight home advantage over GW, and has gone 3-1 in the last four meetings in Fairfax. All-time however, George Washington holds an 29-14 record over George Mason.
 
Both teams are coming off of tough losses on the road. Mason dropped a defensive clash with VCU, 55-45 while George Washington fell to La Salle, 74-65. The nine-point deficit against the Explorers was the same margin of defeat as when the Patriots played in Philly earlier last week, falling by a score of 69-62.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • Sophomore Paula Suarez has been a recent star for the Patriots, averaging 11.0 points, 4.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game over the last three games. Against VCU, she went 4-4 from 3-point range.
  • Junior Taylor Jameson continues to lead the Patriots in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per game (14th, A-10). The guard is also contributing defensively with a team-high 1.3 steals per game (17th, A-10).
  • Senior Nalani Kaysia is having a stand-out rookie season and is ranked first for the Patriots and 14th in the A-10 with 6.7 rebounds per game. The former volleyball standout is also ranked 11th in the conference with 0.8 blocks per contest.
  • Mason continues to be ranked among the top teams in the conference with the fourth-best scoring defense in the A-10, allowing just 61.7 points per game. 
  • The Patriots also ranked third in the A-10 with 40.7 rebounds per game, and rank first with 14.0 offensive boards per outing.
 
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
George Washington began the season with an 8-5 out-of-conference record, including a win over common opponent Coppin State, 61-51, on Dec. 22. The Colonials are currently 3-2 in A-10 play, with their most recent loss coming at the hands of La Salle on the road in Philly.
 
Two Colonials are averaging double-digit scoring performances, Mia Lakstigala (13.8, 10th A-10) and Nya Robertson (12.7). Lakstigala is also second on the team in rebounding with 6.0 boards per game while Robertson is second in assisting, averaging 2.1 per game.
 
Mayowa Taiwo is the best rebounder for the Buff and Blue, averaging 9.3 per game, a mark that ranks third in the Atlantic 10. She is also putting up 8.2 points per game and has registered five double-doubles so far this season and leads the team in steals with 2.2 per contest (7th, A-10). Asjah Inniss leads GW with 2.3 assists per game.
 
UP NEXT 
Mason will have an extended break after playing three games in just six days and will return to the court in Richmond. The Patriots will tip-off with the Spiders on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m.
