Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Despite a strong fourth-quarter push, the George Mason women's basketball team fell to La Salle 69-62 in A-10 action.
The Patriots (9-8, 2-2) were led by the senior pair of
Tamia Lawhorne and
Nalani Kaysia. Lawhorne led Mason in scoring for the second-straight game with 14 points while Kaysia recorded her second career double-double on 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Explorers (10-8, 1-2) gained momentum at the end of the first quarter, going on an 8-0 run to take a 20-13 lead at the break. Mason was able to fight back in the second behind 2-2 3-point shooting from Lawhorne and a last-second offensive rebound and layup by freshman
Jada Brown to lead 31-30 at the halftime break.
La Salle got hot in the third, out-scoring Mason 22-5 on 8-15 shooting while limiting the Patriots to just 1-12 from the field.
Mason would not go quietly however, as the teams traded points to start the fourth quarter before it built an 11-3 run and force an Explorer timeout with 6:00 remaining.
The Patriots were able to get within two points on a three-point play by Kaysia, 58-56, but La Salle was able to hold off the push and close the game on their own 11-4 run, hitting four 3-pointers in the fourth and converting on 5-6 free throws.
PATRIOT POINTS
- Three Patriots hit double-figure scoring, Lawhorne, Kaysia and Paula Suarez, who scored 10 points for her second-striaght game in double-digits. She also contributed a career-high-matching five assists.
- Mason out-rebounded La Salle 41-29, including 20 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points.
- The Patriots forced 22 turnovers that turned into 24 points. Three Patriots recorded two steals each.
