ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The George Mason women's volleyball team fell to Saint Louis in straight sets on the road on Friday to open the two-match series at Chaifetz Pavilion.
Saint Louis (11-4, 3-0) were incredibly efficient in their attack, hitting at a .422 clip and committing just eight errors. Three Billikens tallied 10 kills to lead the opposition.
The Patriots (5-9, 1-2) saw nine athletes record a kill and were led once again by senior outside hitter
Mujay Mambu who tallied five.
SLU jumped out to an 8-2 lead to begin set one and would hold on through the entire set, not allowing the Patriots to get closer tan 13-11 midway through the stanza. Four Patriots recorded two kills a-piece.
Set two was back-and-forth, featuring six tie-scores, including at 12-12 on a
Katelyn Clarke kill. However, Saint Louis scored eight of the next 10 to take a six-point lead and cruise to the second set victory.
Mason was only able to muster five kills in set three, as Saint Louis put down 13 at an efficient .550 percentage to go along with six service aces.
PATRIOT POINTS
- Graduate student Peyton Ehmke was once again Mason's most efficient attacker, putting down four kills with no errors for a .667 clip.
- Sophomore Damiana Bova-Ford led the Patriots with 12 assists.
- Senior Stephanie Der recorded 11 digs to go along with a perfect service percentage on the night.
- Ehmke led GMU with two total blocks, as the teams were just about even with SLU edging Mason, 4.0-3.0.
