Patriots Travel to Saint Louis for A-10 Road Opener

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team will hit the road this weekend en route to Missouri to take on Saint Louis in its' first conference road matches of the season.
 
The Patriots (5-8, 1-1) are coming off of a weekend split with VCU while the Billikens (10-4, 2-0) beat Rhode Island twice in two five-set battles.
 
Saint Louis holds a 1-13 all-time record over George Mason, with the Patriots' last win coming on Sept. 22, 2018 in the form of a five-set victory at home in Fairfax. 
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • Sophomore Olyvia Kennedy leads the Patriots on offense, tallying 133 kills so far this season at a .226 clip, good for 2.66 kills/set.
  • The setting duo of sophomore Damiana Bova-Ford and freshman Gabriella Gelfound are pacing the Mason offense with 4.53 and 4.38 assists/set, respectively. 
  • At the net defensively, middle blockers graduate student Peyton Ehmke and sophomore Camille Larkin lead the team with 45.0 and 38.0 blocks, respectively. Both recorded seven total blocks this past weekend against VCU.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Billikens are off to a solid start this season, and have won four of their last five. The loss during that five-match stretch was to Big 12 member Iowa State in five sets. SLU has a quartet of players that have accumulated over 100 kills so far this season, led by Emily Henken, who has tallied 141, and Jillian Mattingly who is hitting at a .350 clip (108 kills). Defensively, Mattingly and Dimitra Tziarli have both notched 42.0 blocks. In the back court, Carlie Rodgers leads Saint Louis with 276 digs and 33 aces. Meanwhile, Kate Aupperle has amassed 344 assists in 2022.
