FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team fell to VCU on Saturday night in a tightly contested four-set match.
The Patriots (5-8, 1-1) were led offensively by sophomore
Olyvia Kennedy, who tallied a team-high 11 kills at a .259 clip.

Ewelina Gacek was also just off the double-digit mark, notching a career-high nine kills and only one error at a .364 hitting percentage.
Mason took set one in a thriller, winning 27-25. Down 25-24, kills by Kennedy and senior
Mujay Mambu and a VCU (6-8, 1-1) error gave the team a 1-0 lead.
The Rams came out firing in set two, using a 12-point streak to take a 20-7 lead and cruised to the match-tying victory behind a .308 hitting percentage.
VCU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in set three and held off the Mason attack with seven blocks to take the set, 25-22.
Set four featured eight tie scores, and despite Mason hitting at a team-high .219 for the match, but VCU converted 19 kills to take the set, 25-23.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mambu and sophomore Camille Larkin teamed up at the net defensively for a team-high five block assists a-piece.
- Junior Grace Kristofic led the Patriots with a career-high 21 assists to go along with an ace, a solo block and a career-high nine digs.
- Senior Stephanie Der led all players with 19 digs.

The Patriots will return to the court on the road next weekend when they travel to Saint Louis, Mo. for their first conference road matches of the season. First serve on Friday, Sept. 30 is at 8 p.m. ET.
