Mason Hosts Second Home Game Sunday, Honors 1982 Team and Title IX

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's soccer team (1-6-3) will play their second A-10 home game of the season this Sunday, September 25, when they host Fordham (2-6-1). The Patriots hope to bounce back from Thursday's loss to the Dayton Flyers.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at George Mason Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can also be followed on Live Stats.

Sunday's game will recognize and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the enacting of Title IX, the law passed by Congress that legally prohibits sex-based discrimination in education programs. Mason will also celebrate 40 years of Patriot women's soccer in Fairfax. Players of the 1982 inaugural women's soccer team will be in attendance as well as other Patriot soccer alumnae. To learn more about the 40th anniversary of Mason women's soccer, click here.

Tickets are required for the 2022 Women's Soccer season. All Single Game Tickets for regular season home games are $10. Avoid the lines that may come with game-day sales at the front gate – pre-purchase your tickets today and present them on your phone for entry to the match.

LAST TIME OUT
 
The Patriots hosted their A-10 home opener last Thursday, September 22, when they faced off against Dayton. The Flyers beat the Patriots 4-0, extending their winning streak to six games and recorded their fourth consecutive shutout. The Patriots hope to secure a win against the Fordham Rams in the second leg of their homestand.

SCOUTING FORDHAM
 
The Rams are coming into Fairfax after not playing any games for the past week. Their last game was on Sunday, September 18, when they tied George Washington 2-2 at their home field in the Bronx. They won the game before that 1-0 at St. Bonaventure, which snapped a five-game losing streak.

Fordham's lead scorers are senior forward Kirsten Cocozza and freshman forward Natalie Velde. They both have two goals on the year along with three other Rams who have contributed with one goal. 

Fordham finished their 2021 season 4-12-2 overal and 2-7-1 in the Atlantic 10.

HISTORY WITH THE RAMS 
 
Mason has matched up with Fordham eight times, with the Patriots edging the Rams for the series lead 3-2-3. The two teams met for the first time on October 13, 2013, where the Patriots won 3-0. The last time they met was last season on October 24, 2021, where the Rams won 2-0.
