WASHINGTON, D.C. – George Mason sophomore defender
Ahmed Mohamed scored his first collegiate goal, but the Patriots fell to American, 2-1, on Friday at Reeves Field in Washington, D.C.
Mason (0-2-0) scored off a set piece to take the lead over American (2-0-1) early in the first half.
Junior midfielder
Louis Lehr sent a corner kick into the box, where graduate student midfielder
Ariel Aguas played the ball to Mohamed, who scored into the lower right corner to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
Aguas recorded his first assist in a Mason uniform.
American erased the Mason lead with a pair of goals in a span of 13 minutes late in the second half.
In the 74th minute, Eagles sophomore forward Zemi Rodriguez scored the equalizer into the lower left corner to make it a 1-1 game.
In the 87th minute, junior forward Robbie Matei netted the game winner, his second goal of the season, into the upper right corner.
Mason senior goalkeeper
Jake Langley (0-2-0) made three saves, while American junior goalkeeper Lorenzo Gordon made two saves in the match.
