WILLIAMSBURG, Va.- Despite a career day for freshman
Gabriella Gelfound, the George Mason women's volleyball team fell to William & Mary in a tight 3-2 loss on Saturday.
Gelfound notched her second career triple-double, tallying 22 assists, 12 digs and a career-high 15 kills at a .303 clip to go along with a career-high four service aces and three total blocks.
The Patriots (2-6) picked up where they left off yesterday, winning the first two sets 25-21, 25-21 while holding the Tribe (5-3) to just a .117 clip over both sets.
In the third set, William & Mary jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back, out-hitting George Mason .250-.094 and tallying four blocks.
In the fourth, the Tribe once again jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but the Patriots mustered a 21-21 tie, but two setting errors and two kills forced a fifth set.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- William & Mary out-hit George Mason 11-3 in the fifth set to take the match.
- The Patriots once again had three players register double-digit kills, as sophomore Olyvia Kennedy and junior Katelyn Clarke tallied 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
- Sophomore Damiana Bova-Ford registered a match-high 26 assists
- Graduate student Peyton Ehmke and sophomore Camille Larkin both notched a team-high five total blocks to contribute to the team's season-high 13 blocks.
UP NEXT
The Patriots will return to Fairfax next weekend to host the George Mason Invitational. The Green & Gold will open the tournament against New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
