FAIRFAX, Va. – Graduate student midfielder 
Ariel Aguas scored the game-winner, his first goal in a Mason uniform, as the Patriots defeated Radford, 3-1, on Saturday night at George Mason Stadium.
 
The victory was the first for Patriots first-year head coach 
Rich Costanzo and his first as a NCAA head coach.
 
Mason (1-3-0) took the lead over Radford (0-3-1) in the 27th minute of play. 
 
Graduate student forward 
Noah Raphael scored his second goal in as many games to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
 
Sophomore defender 
Ahmed Mohamed and sophomore forward 
Balint Kocso each notched their first career assists on the play.
 
The Highlanders scored the equalizer late in the first half when sophomore forward Jared Dubose netted his first goal of the season in the 42nd minute to make it a 1-1 game.
 
Mason took the lead for good in the first minute of the second half.
 
In the 46th minute, Aguas was fouled inside the penalty area.  On the penalty kick, with the Radford goalkeeper diving to his left, Aguas converted the eventual game-winner into the center of the net to give the Patriots a 2-1 advantage.
 
The Patriots added to the lead in the 59th minute when junior midfielder 
Louis Lehr scored his first goal of the season to make the score 3-1.
 
Mason senior goalkeeper 
Jake Langley (1-3-0) faced just two shots on goal and made one save to record his first win as a Patriot.  Radford senior goalkeeper Joseba Incera made three saves in the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Patriots outshot the Highlanders, 16-6, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.  Radford finished with five corner kicks, while Mason had four corner kicks in the match.
 
Aguas led all players with three shots, while freshman midfielder 
Nicholas Prioli finished with two shots in the game.

The Patriots play their first Atlantic 10 Conference match of the season when they host St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Sept. 17, with the opening kick scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
