WASHINGTON, D.C.- The George Mason women's volleyball team dropped their season opener on Friday night at Burr Gymnasium in four sets to Howard University.
The Patriots were led by reigning All-Rookie selection
Olyvia Kennedy, who registered a team-high nine kills. Fellow sophomore
Camille Larkin hit at a team-best .455 clip to help lead the Patriots offense.
Freshman
Gabriella Gelfound made her debut in the Green & Gold with 15 assists and eight digs.
Down 20-13 in the fourth set, Mason pulled within one to make the score 21-20, but the comeback fell short as the Bison closed out the match with a kill.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mason took the first set 25-21, scoring five of the last seven points.
- The Patriots' defense held Howard to just a .22 hitting percentage in the first set, while hitting at a .278.
- Howard's second and third sets were led by efficient .417 and .407 clips, respectively, to jump out to a 2-1 lead after three sets.
- The fourth set was back-and-forth, but Mason committed seven errors to limit it to just a .088 hitting percentage.

Mason will return to Washington, D.C. tomorrow to take on the Eagles of American University at 12 p.m. After the match, Mason will travel home to host New Orleans in the team's home opener Saturday night at 7 p.m. inside the RAC.
