NORFOLK, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team fell to Old Dominion in the season opener, 1-0, on Friday evening at the ODU Soccer Complex in Norfolk, Va.
Mason (0-1) and Old Dominion (1-0) remained scoreless at the half. Each team registered one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes of play.
Old Dominion took the lead in the 66th minute of play when freshman forward Michael Eberle scored his first collegiate goal to put the Monarchs in front, 1-0.
Mason senior goalkeeper
Jake Langley (0-1) made five saves, including four in the second half in his Patriots debut. Old Dominion freshman goalkeeper Michael Statham (1-0) made three saves to record the shutout in his first collegiate game.
Mason graduate student midfielder
Ariel Aguas (58 MIN) and graduate student forward
Noah Raphael (90 MIN) made their debut in a Mason uniform. Aguas led the club with three shots and two shots on goal in the match.
Freshmen midfielders
Zach Eichelberger (49 MIN) and
Nicholas Prioli (61 MIN), along with freshman defenders
