Fairfax, Va. – George Mason men's volleyball player Omar Hoyos will be representing Puerto Rico in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championships that begins tomorrow in Poland and Slovenia.

"This is a tournament that you dream playing in when growing up. It's the most elite men's volleyball tournament after the Olympics. I am very excited to have the opportunity to represent Puerto Rico in such a stage."

This is not the first time that Hoyos has been recognized on a national level. Last year, Omar helped lead Puerto Rico to a silver medal at the U23 Pan American Cup in the Dominican Republic.

In his sophomore season for the Patriots, Hoyos earned the EIVA Player of the Week twice and was named EIVA Second Team All-Conference. He recorded 297 kills, 28 assists, 189 digs, 35 blocks and 32 service aces.

The World Championship features 24 different countries playing in four-team pool play. Each team is guaranteed three games. You can access the full schedule
here.

Omar and Puerto Rico will suit up for their first game against Tunisia on August 27th in Katowice, Poland at 11:30 A.M. ET (17:30 local time).
