FAIRFAX, Va. – Former George Mason University men's basketball student-athlete Darryl Monroe will play for the $1 million grand prize in Tuesday's The Basketball Tournament (TBT) Final in Dayton Ohio.
Monroe and his Americana for Autism teammates will compete vs. Blue Collar U at 8 p.m. live on ESPN. The winning team will split the $1 million prize.
The former Mason standout hit the game-winning free throws to advance Americana for Autism past AfterShocks (78-75) in Saturday's semifinal. It marked the team's fifth-straight victory in the 64-team, single-elimination tournament.
He has averaged 10.0 points in five games this tournament and leads the team in both rebounding (7.4/game) and assists (4.2 apg).
Monroe played three seasons for the Patriots from 2006-09 and tallied career averages of 8.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest. Monroe earned second-team All-CAA accolades in 2009 after averaging 10.5 points and 7.7 rebounds while leading the team to an NIT berth. He still ranks fifth all time in Mason annals in career field goal percentage (.569).
