Four Patriots Earn Baseball All-Conference Accolades

FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason Freshman outfielder Brett Ahalt and freshman pitcher Chad Gartland were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, while graduate student outfielder Kamron Smith and graduate student infielder/pitcher Danny Hosley were selected to the A-10 All-Academic Team.

Ahalt, a native of Woodsboro, Md., hit .329 (53-for-161) with 12 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 32 RBI and 34 runs scored in 47 games with 45 starts.  He led the club in batting average (.329), was second in stolen bases (15), third in doubles (12), slugging percentage (.453) and on-base percentage (.411), and he was fourth in hits (53), RBI (32) and runs scored (34).

Ahalt had at least one hit in 29 games and recorded 15 multi-hit games during the regular season.

Gartland, from Rochester, N.Y., finished the season with a 3-1 record and a 3.99 ERA.  He tied for first on the team in saves (3) and strikeouts (65), was second in ERA (3.99), third in innings pitched (67.2), fourth in starts (8) and tied for sixth in appearances (16).

Gartland pitched at least six innings in six of his eight starts and tossed at least six innings in all five of his starts against conference opponents during the regular season.  At Spuhler Field, he posted a 1.86 ERA in six appearances with four starts.

Hosley, a two-way player from Vienna, Va., finished the season with a .269 average (53-for-197) with 14 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 31 RBI and 29 runs scored in 51 starts at third base/shortstop.  He led the team in doubles (14), was second in total bases (86), tied for second in home runs (5), was fourth in hits (53) and walks (20), and he ranked fifth in RBI (31) and runs scored (29).

A Sport Management major, Hosley also made 12 appearances on the mound with six starts with a 3-4 record and 4.47 ERA.

Smith, a native of Colonial Beach, Va., finished the campaign with a .281 average (57-for-203) with 13 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 35 RBI and 34 runs scored in 54 games with 53 starts.  He led the club in at-bats (203) and total bases (87), was second in hits (56), doubles (13) and RBI (35), tied for second in home runs (5), and tied for third in runs scored (34).

A Sport Management major, Smith recorded at least one hit in 37 games during the regular season, including a 19-game hit streak April 17-May 20.  He posted 17 multi-hit games during the season and against A-10 opponents, had at least one hit in 19 of 24 games and registered nine multi-hit contests.
