FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's volleyball team (12-11, 7-6 EIVA) will complete their final road trip of the regular season, first stopping at Fairleigh Dickinson (6-12) on Friday Apr. 8 at 7 p.m. inside the Rothman Center.
Mason will then head over to face EIVA foe Princeton (9-12, 7-6 EIVA) on Saturday, Apr. 9 at 5 p.m. inside Dillon Gymnasium. The Patriots and the Tigers are tied for fourth place in the conference.
LAST TIME OUT
Mason is coming off a two-win weekend with Charleston (WVa.) to win four consecutive conference matches. The Patriots earned their first win in four sets (25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15) before earning their second win in a decisive fifth set (18-25, 25-10, 25-19, 22-25, 15-11).
Senior
Richie Hoff, who has had a relatively quiet season, shined this past weekend for the Patriots. Hoff hit double digit kills in both matches, recording 10 on 0.300 hitting on Friday and 16 on 0.652 hitting on Saturday. With only one service error in Friday's match, the outside hitter complied one service ace on 16 total attempts.
Sophomore
Sam Peters continues to lead the team on the defensive end. The middle block recorded a team high five blocks in the win on Friday and a team high eight block in the win on Saturday. Peters was a team leader in hitting over the weekend, going 7-2-11 (0.455) on Friday and 2-for-7 (0.286) on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON (6-12)
The Knights are coming off a weekend split with American International and Princeton. The first win of the weekend came against American International in three sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-15). The Knights faced difficulty in the second match of the weekend, coming off a loss in four sets (21-25, 27-25, 21-25, 26-28) to Princeton.
The Highlanders are led offensively by freshman Jack Lydon. The outside hitter leads the team with 189 total kills in 60 sets played. He has also tallied seven assists and 18 service aces so far this season.
Sophomore Santiago La Jara leads the Knights on the defensive end. The middle block has recorded 32 blocks in 47 sets played. He has also tallied 21 digs during the 2022 season.
The Patriots hold the advantage over the Knights, leading the all-time series 1-0.
PRINCETON (9-12, 7-6 EIVA)
The Tigers are coming off a weekend win against Fairleigh Dickinson. Princeton battled through some long rallies to earn the win over the Knights in four sets (25-21, 25-27, 25-21, 28-26). Princeton has won four straight matches.
The Tigers are led by sophomore Ben Harrington on both the offensive and defensive ends. The outside hitter has tallied 238 kills in 76 sets played. He also recorded 16 assists and 40 service aces so far this season. On defense, Harrington leads the team 109 digs and 36 blocks.
The Patriots hold the advantage over the Tigers, leading the all-time series 47-29.
