D'Shawn Schwartz Wins 3x3U National Championship at Final Four

NEW ORLEANS - George Mason University men's basketball graduate guard D'Shawn Schwartz put together a memorable weekend at the 2022 NCAA Men's Final Four, capped by a team victory at the 3X3U National Championship at the Sugar Mill in New Orleans. 

Schwartz hit the game-winning shot late Sunday afternoon to earn his team the $50,000 grand prize. The East Coast Ballers team of four was made up of Schwartz as well as Tyrese Martin (UConn), RJ Cole (UConn) and Ryan Hawkins (Creighton). 

Schwartz and the East Coast Ballers went 4-2 in pool play Friday and Saturday to earn a bye into the second round of the 3X3U knockout stage Sunday. They won their second round game, 20-19, then erased a 15-8 deficit to win 20-17 in the quarterfinals. In the semis, they claimed a 20-17 victory to advance to the final, where Schwartz hit a number of key shots, including the mid-range game winner, to win 21-17. 

Schwartz also opened the weekend with a strong performance in the Reese's All-Star Game. He tallied 15 points and six rebounds in 20 minutes of action while leading the East team to a 115-103 victory. 

The weekend capped an outstanding graduate campaign for the Colorado Springs, Colo., product. 

Schwartz excelled for the Patriots this past season while ranking sixth in the A-10 in scoring in league games (16.8 ppg). In overall contests, he was third in the league in 3pt FG percentage (.380) and sixth in 3pt FG made/game (2.53). He tallied nine 20+ point efforts and 22 with 10+ points, while registering double figure scoring totals in 14 of 16 A-10 contests. His 76 3-pointers made on the year ranked seventh-most in Mason single season history.
