Bergan, Clabeaux, Maranto and Tyler Earn VaSID All-State Honors

FAIRFAX, Va. – Seniors Jared Bergan and Jacquee Clabeaux, along with freshmen Nicholas Maranto and Ali Tyler have been selected to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Team, the organization announced on Monday.
 
Bergan was named First Team All-State in the butterfly, while Maranto was selected First Team All-State in the IM.  Clabeaux was named Second Team All-State in the breaststroke, with Tyler was tabbed Second Team All-State in sprint freestyle.
 
Clabeaux, a native of Fairfax, Va., won four medals at the 2022 A-10 Championships.  She claimed the A-10 title in the 100-breaststroke, setting new conference record with a time of 1:00.61.
 
A member of the 2022 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, Clabeaux captured the silver at the A-10 Championships in the 200-breaststroke with a NCAA-B time of 2:12.62, and also won two relay gold medals (400-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay).
 
It's the third time that Clabeaux has been selected VaSID Second Team All-State (2019-20, 2020-21).
 
Clabeaux, who recorded 14 top-three performances during the season (10 first-place, three second-place and one third-place), competed in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the 2021 U.S. Open in Greensboro, N.C. 
 
Named A-10 Performer of the Week for the week ending Nov. 23, 2021, Clabeaux won two individual events and helped set two meet records and two program records at the Patriot Invitational held Nov. 18-20 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax, Va.
 
Clabeaux won both the 200-yard IM (2:01.32) and 200-yard breaststroke with a NCAA B time of 1:56.33, was a member of the winning 400-medley relay team that set a program record with a time of 3:40.69, part of the winning 200-freestyle relay team that set a program record with a time of 1:31.96, and 800-freestyle relay team that set a new meet record by more than five seconds (7:24.76), and was part of the group that set a new meet record in the 400-freestyle relay (3:20.84).
 
Tyler finished her spectacular rookie season when she was named Rookie Performer of the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championships after winning the A-10 Championship in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke.
 
Tyler, from Cheshire, Conn., set a new team record in both the 100-yard backstroke (53.13) and the 200-yard backstroke with a NCAA B qualifying time (1:55.51) at the A-10 Championships.  She also set the meet and conference record in the preliminaries of the 50-yard freestyle with a qualifying time of 22.29.
 
Tyler helped the Patriots win the gold medal in the 400-yard freestyle relay, setting a new meet and team record (3:20.30).  Her time in the 100-yard freestyle leading off the relay set a new A-10 Championship and Mason program record.  She also won gold as part of the 400-medley relay team with new A-10 record time of 3:37.99.
 
Tyler won a team-high 20 events during the season and placed second four times for 207 points.
 
Tyler set a new meet record in the 400-IM by more than two seconds, winning the event with a time of 4:13.02 at Patriot Invitational Nov. 18-20.  She also won the 200-backstroke with a NCAA B qualifying time of 1:56.33 at the event.
 
Bergan, a native of West Chester, Pa., placed seventh in the 200-yard butterfly (1:49.46) and 12th in the 100-yard butterfly (49.29) at the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championships. 
 
Bergan won the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.20) against Old Dominion on Jan. 29 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax, Va.  He placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.90) and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (50.80) at the A-10 Classic Oct. 30-31.
 
Bergan, who recorded six top-three performances during the season, won the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.00) and placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (51.35) at the Richmond Duals on Oct. 22-23.  He also took third in both the 100-yard butterfly (53.13) and 200-yard butterfly (1:57.01) against Delaware on Oct. 9.
 
Maranto, from Warrenton, Va., placed fifth in the 400-yard IM (3:56.28) and 10th in the 200-yard IM (1:49.92) at the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championships.
 
At the A-10 Classic held Oct. 30-31, Maranto placed fourth in the 400-yard IM (4:14.59).  At the Richmond Duals held Oct. 22-23, he finished third in the 400-yard IM (4:15.61) and fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:00.16).
