Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |
FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's volleyball team (13-13, 7-8 EIVA) fell in a ferocious five sets (25-18, 21-25, 17-25, 25-21, 11-15) to Harvard (11-12, 8-6 EIVA) on Friday night inside The RAC.

Mason started the match strong, take the lead early in the set. Harvard would try and find a way to claw back and would come within a margin as small as two points seven times during the first game. The Patriots were able to pull ahead by seven points in order to take the win in the first set 25-18.

Harvard would come out with the slight advantage in the second game, but Mason was able to bounce quickly. Errors on the Crimson allowed Mason to come within one point before the Patriots took a timeout at the 6–10-point mark. After the timeout, Mason went on a 6-2 run to tie the game at 12-12. The Patriots would tie the set three more times before falling 21-25 in the second game.

The Crimson came out of the second set fighting hard, taking the lead early and for the entirety of the set. Mason would come within one point twice during the set, but it would not be enough as Harvard took the win 25-17.

Mason came off with the early lead in the fourth set with the Crimson as the Patriots forced Mason to take a timeout at the 11-6-point mark. A run by Harvard then forced Mason to take a timeout at the 16-14-point mark. Each team would use their final timeout with the last one being taken by the Patriots at the 21-19-point mark. A dominant offensive effort that electrified The RAC, allowed Mason to take the 25-21 win in the fourth game to force a decisive fifth set.

Harvard took the first point in game five, but not before the Patriots and the Crimson would go point for point almost all the way to the media timeout where Harvard led, 8-7. A 3-0 run for the Crimson would force a Mason timeout at the 8-11-point mark. Harvard went on a 3-1 run before Mason scored two points to make it an 11-14 game. A kill from the Crimson gave them the win in the set and the match.

" I thought our team battled hard tonight against a good Harvard team," said Head Coach Jay Hosack. "We just missed on a few key execution points late in game 3 and 5 that made all the difference."
