Patriots Back in Action Saturday at the JMU Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason track and field program will head to Harrisonburg to compete in the JMU Invitational on Saturday.
 
Saturday's meet will start at 10 a.m. with the hammer throw. The running events will take off at 1:50 p.m. with the 4x100 relays. The final event Mason will compete in will be the 4x400 relays, slated for 4:30 p.m.
 
Mason will send 59 student-athletes to the JMU Invitational. The meet will be broadcast nationally on FloTrack ($). 
 
Last time out, Mason totaled three first-place finishes and a bevy of personal-best marks at the newly-dedicated Dalton Ebanks Invitational on April 9. 
 
Junior Jack Ikenberry set a six-second personal-best in the 5000m race (14:19.79). He was named A-10 Men's Track Performer of the Week for his first-place performance. 
 
In addition, junior Hannah Robertson and graduate student Jaylen Simmons each posted season-best marks in their respective events. Robertson cleared 3.87 meters in the pole vault to lead the A-10 this season. Simmons notched a toss of 17.50 meters in the shot put which ranks first in the A-10 and 35th regionally. 
 
Mason also saw success at the Tennessee Relays (April 7-9) where Cason Gardner made his decathlon debut. He totaled 6,704 points which currently leads the conference and ranks 19th in the NCAA East Region. He earned A-10 Field Performer of the Week honors for his performance. 
 
Freshman Josh Walker pulled off the A-10 weekly award sweep for the men. He was named A-10 Rookie of the Week after placing fifth in his steeplechase debut at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational. His time of 9:33.19 sits fifth in the A-10. 
 
In this week's USTFCCCA event squad rankings, Mason ranks 16th in the 10k and 19th in the hammer throw on the men's side. The Patriots sit 14th nationally in the women's triple jump and 41st in the women's pole vault. 

Up next, Mason will compete at the Navy Invitational on April 23 in Annapolis, Md.
