Mason Men Sweep A-10 Weekly Awards

FAIRFAX, Va. — The George Mason men's track and field program swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards, the league office announced on Tuesday. 

Junior Jack Ikenberry was named A-10 Men's Track Performer of the Week while senior Cason Gardner earned A-10 Men's Field Performer of the Week honors. Freshman Josh Walker garnered the league's rookie of the week accolades. 

Ikenberry, native of Mechanicsville, Va., posted a personal-record time of 14:19.79 to finish first in the 5000m at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational (April 9). The time was a six-second PR and ranks eighth in Mason outdoor history. He sits third in the A-10 in the 5000m and first in the 10,000m. 

Gardner, from Mechanicsville, Va., made his decathlon debut at a competitive Tennessee Relays (April 7-9). He posted a conference-leading 6,704 points in the decathlon, finishing 11th overall. He PR'ed in the 110m hurdles (15.02), discus (32.19m) and pole vault (4.25m). His point total ranks 19th nationally in the NCAA East region.

Walker, from Purcellville, Va., placed fifth in his steeplechase debut at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational, running a time of 9:33.19. The mark ranks fifth in the Atlantic 10 this season.

Up next, Mason heads to the JMU Invitational on Saturday, April 16 in Harrisonburg, Va.
