FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's volleyball team (10-11, 5-6 EIVA) travels to West Virginia for their first two game series against Charleston (5-11, 2-8 EIVA) on Friday, Apr. 1 and Saturday, Apr. 2.
The match on Friday is set for 7 p.m. and the match for Saturday is set for 5 p.m., both inside Wehrle Innovation Center.
LAST TIME OUT
Mason is coming off a two-win weekend this past weekend with wins against NJIT and St. Francis Brooklyn inside the RAC. The Green & Gold defeated the Highlanders last Friday in four sets (38-36, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22) before taking a record breaking on Saturday in a five set (31-33, 27-25, 18-25, 25-23, 18-16) battle against the Terriers.
Redshirt sophomore
Jack Bolz led the Patriots on the offensive end. Bolz recorded a match high and team high 21 kills in the win against No. 15 NJIT. Bolz tied his then career high in kills (21) for the fourth time this season in the 3-1 win against the Highlanders. The opposite then slammed down a new career high 22 kills in the win against St. Francis Brooklyn the following night. Bolz totaled 43 kills, 107 attempts, 0.234 hitting, 21 digs, and 12 blocks over the weekend.
On the defensive end, sophomore
Sam Peters recorded a match high and team high nine blocks in the win against NJIT. This is a career high for Peters. One of the Little's eight blocks in the match was a solo block. The middle block recorded another team high six blocks in the win against St. Francis Brooklyn. Peters also had 17 kills on .429 hitting with two digs and an ace on the weekend.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
CHARLESTON (5-6, 1-5 EIVA)
The Golden Eagles are coming off a bye weekend. Previously, Charleston (WVa.) fell in both games of a weekend series to NJIT. The Golden Eagles lost in three sets in the first match (19-25, 24-26, 18-25), before falling in the second match in a thrilling five sets (25-21, 25-27, 19-25, 25-21, 9-15).
The Golden Eagles are led offensively by junior Jake Vorburger. The opposite leads the team with 121 total kills, two assists, and six service aces in 48 sets played.
Senior Diego Villafane leads the Golden Eagles on the defensive end. The setter is a team leader in digs and blocks, recording 84 and 31 respectively.
The Patriots hold the advantage over the Golden Eagles, leading the all-time series 15-0.
