Pair of School Records Fall on Day Two of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – A pair of George Mason school records fell on the second day of the Raleigh Relays Friday at the Dail Track/Soccer Complex in Raleigh, N.C. 

Graduate student Jaylen Simmons shattered a 25-year-old school record in the discus, set by Perry Gaskins in 1997 (52.62m). He posted a PR of 53.22 meters, finishing fourth overall in the event. It marked Simmons' third school record at Mason. 

In the evening session, junior Jack Ikenberry broke the program record in the 10,000-meter run with a PR of 29:35.94. He bested the previous record by four seconds, set by teammate Hunter Jutras a season ago (29:39.68). 

Reigning A-10 Field Performer of the Week Kelsey Sebwe posted a PR of 12.08 meters in the triple jump. She notched a top-10 performance to lead the Patriots in the event. 

Grace Furlong, A-10 indoor champion in the triple jump, finished 13th in the event (11.96m). Dhiambi Otete notched 18th (11.63m) while Laura DeMarzi was 26th (11.27m). 

Decker Barborek tabbed fifth in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.57 meters while Cason Gardner was 24th in the men's high jump (1.90m).  

Graduate student Lindsey Schmidt competed in two events on Friday. She finished eighth in the high jump (1.70m) and 40th in the 100m hurdles (15.04). Her high jump mark tied for ninth in outdoor program history. Freshman Abby Weening added a 42nd-finish in the 100m hurdles (15.15).

Elsewhere on the track, Timothy Allen, Gardner and Ellis Nei competed in the 110m hurdles. Allen led the group, notching 16th with a PR of 14.71. Gardner was 30th (15.20 PR), followed by Nei (15.75 PR). 

In the 100m dash, Mason Mays placed 61st (11.19) while Sundiata Kamau Jr. was closely behind in 64th (11.24). Freshman Noelle Foss notched 48th in a time of 12.39 on the women's side. 

Sophomore Jarett Flaker placed 27th in the 400-meter dash (49.19) while senior Abigail Williams was 73rd for the women (59.37).

Sophomore Sarah Francis posted a PR of 16:56.40 in the 5000-meter race — good for eighth all-time at Mason.

Mason concludes the Raleigh Relays on Saturday at the Dail Track/Soccer Complex in Raleigh, N.C.
