Box Score MALIBU, Calif. – The George Mason men's volleyball team (7-9, 2-5 EIVA) fell in three sets (18-25, 14-25, 17-25) against No. 7 Pepperdine (9-6, 2-2 MPSF) on Friday night inside Fireside Fieldhouse.
Mason took the first point in the first two of the three sets of the night. The Patriots held an advantage over the Waves in the start of the first set before going point for point down the stretch.
In each of the three sets, both teams went neck and neck, fighting for the lead in the game. Mason could not keep up offensively leading to a No. 7 Pepperdine win of the match.
" I liked our team energy tonight," said Head Coach
Jay Hosack. "We struggled converting opportunities that we created and that took some wind out of our sails. If we convert a few more than we did, we would feel better about our performance. It's a step in the right direction, but we have more work to do."
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Senior Richie Hoff led the team in kills (12).
- Sophomore Omar Hoyos helped lead the team offensively with seven kills.
- Sophomore Jason Ashenfelter led the team in hitting percentage, hitting 0.600 with four kills on five attempts with one error.
- Freshman Lucas Little recorded a team high two service aces.
- Little led the team in blocks with two on the night, one of them was a solo block.
- Two Patriots tallied four kills in the loss.
- Freshman Troy McDonald set a team high of 26 assists.
- Defensively, three Patriots recorded four digs.
- No. 7 Pepperdine outhit Mason, 48.3 percent to the Patriots' 3.5 percent.
- Mason tallied 30 kills to No. 7 Pepperdine's 33.
- No. 7 Pepperdine recorded four service aces to Mason's five.
