FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team wraps up its road schedule with a Wednesday contest at first place Davidson.
Tip-off between the Patriots and Wildcats is set for 7 p.m. inside Belk Arena. Wednesday's contest will be broadcast on ESPN+. In addition, Bill Rohland will call the game on the A-10 Digital Network, with streaming coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.
PATRIOT POINTS
• The Patriots are coming off a 69-62 victory over GW Sunday in Fairfax. Mason closed the game on a 13-0 run to erase a late six-point deficit (62-56).
• A-10 leading scorer
Josh Oduro (18.4 ppg) notched a game-high 27 points (11-14 FT) and tied his career best with 14 rebounds to notch his fifth double-double of the season. It marked Oduro's 11th game this season with 20 or more points.
•
D'Shawn Schwartz scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half and hit three critical 3-pointers late in the game. Schwartz averages 16.9 points/game in league play (7th in A-10).
• One of the nation's top-75 3pt shooting teams (.360), the Patriots are making just 24.7 percent (20-81) of their attempts over the past three contests.
• The Patriots grabbed a season-best 16 offensive rebounds against the Colonials and held a +10 (17-7) edge in second chance points.
• If Oduro finishes the season ranked first in the A-10 in scoring, he'd claim Mason's first individual conference scoring title since George Evans in 1998-99 (17.2 ppg). Oduro's season average (18.4 ppg) is the highest by a Patriot since Evans in 2000-01 (18.4 ppg).
• Mason is a perfect 9-0 when winning the turnover battle this season and 5-11 when its opponent holds the turnover edge.
• Graduate student
DeVon Cooper ranks 37th nationally in 3pt FG% and his 40.1 percent clip on the year is third all time at Mason for a student-athlete with at least 150 attempts.
• The Patriots feature a top-100 KenPom offense for the first time since 2010-11. Mason averages 1.141 points/possession (94th).
• Mason ranks fifth in the A-10 in assists/game this season. That's the highest average by a Patriot team since 2005-06 (14.5 assists/game).
•
Davonte Gaines is the first Patriot since Marquise Moore (2016-17) to average more than eight rebounds per game.
• Mason is ranked 108th in the latest NCAA NET rankings. The Patriots also are #108 in KenPom.
HISTORY vs. DAVIDSON
Wednesday's matchup marks the 10th all-time meeting between Mason and Davidson. The Wildcats hold a 7-2 advantage in the series. Mason is 1-3 all time at Belk Arena. The two teams did not meet in the 2020-21 regular season due to COVID-19 rescheduling, but matched up in the A-10 Tournament Quarterfinals. In that contest, Davidson won 99-67 on March 5, 2021, at Richmond's Robins Center.
