FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team (11-10, 4-4) plays Richmond (16-8, 7-4) for the second time in three days Wednesday when the Patriots host the Spiders on CBS Sports Network.
Tip-off between the Patriots and Spiders is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday's contest will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network, featuring commentary from John Sadak, Chris Walker and John Hollinger. In addition, Bill Rohland will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with streaming coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.
The CBSSN "Beyond the Box Score" broadcast will provide an analytics-focused presentation of the game. Production elements will include a constantly updating points-per-possession tracker as well as segments on shot quality, scouting reports, player ratings, and lineup optimization. Through stats and specially crafted graphics packages, CBS Sports will offer the viewer insight into team and player performance beyond conventional stats.

• Mason looks to snap a three-game losing skid, with the three losses coming by a total of 10 points. The Patriots have dropped two of the three games in the final second
• Most recently, the Patriots fell 62-59 at Richmond Monday, with Jacob Gilyard hitting a 3-pointer in the final second to give the Spiders the win.

Davonte Gaines led Mason with team highs in points (17), rebounds (9) and assists (4). It marked his fifth straight game with 10+ points and sixth-straight with 8+ rebounds.

Xavier Johnson notched his second-straight double-double Monday, tallying 13 points (4-8 FG) and 10 rebounds in 38 minutes. Johnson is averaging 14.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists over the past two games.
• The Patriots are one of the most efficient shooting teams in the nation. Mason ranks 20th in the country in effective FG percentage (.551), 21st in 3pt FG percentage (.377) and 46th in 2pt FG percentage (.538).

DeVon Cooper ranks 25th in the country in 3pt FG% (.340) and ranks 50th in 3pt FG made/game (2.76). He needs just nine more 3-pointers to become the seventh player in school history to reach the 200 triple milestone.

D'Shawn Schwartz reached the 200 3pt milestone earlier this season. He ranks seventh in the A-10 in scoring in league games (17.0 ppg) and has tallied at least 10 points in 11 straight games.

Josh Oduro, the A-10's leading scorer (17.7 ppg), has missed the last two games (concussion protocol. Mason is 4-1 in A-10 games with Oduro this season and 0-3 without. Oduro's interior presence was missed in those three contests. In the five with the Preseason All-A-10 selection, Mason gave up just 68.0 points/game and allowed opponents to shoot just 42.2 percent from 2. In the three without Oduro, Mason gave up 74 points/game and allowed opponents to shoot 58.1 percent from inside the arc.
• In A-10 contests, Mason leads the league in 3pt FG percentage (.406) and is second in overall FG percentage (.473).
• Mason is ranked 102nd in the latest NCAA NET rankings. The Patriots also are #104 in KenPom, marking the team's highest February ranking since 2012.
HISTORY vs. RICHMOND
Wednesday's game marks the 67th all-time meeting between George Mason and Richmond in men's basketball (Mason trails 25-41). The Patriots are 15-13 vs. the Spiders in Fairfax and 8-21 in games played in Richmond (2-7 on neutral courts). The Spiders have won six of the past seven matchups, including a 62-59 victory Monday in the Robins Center.
HISTORY vs. IN-STATE, DIVISION I OPPONENTS
Monday's game marks the 409th all-time game for Mason against an in-state, Div. I foe. The Patriots are 190-218 (.466) vs. Commonwealth opponents over the past 54 seasons. Harkening back to its CAA history, Mason's most common in-state opponents are James Madison (49-51), William & Mary (40-28), Richmond (25-41), VCU (22-43) and Old Dominion (22-37).

Richmond was picked second in the 2021-22 A-10 preseason poll. The Spiders are 7-4 in A-10 play this season. Richmond is the 22nd-most experienced ball club in America, according to KenPom (2.56 years/player). The Spiders lead the A-10 in assists per game (15.8) and are fourth in scoring (73.0 ppg). Tyler Burton leads Richmond in scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.3 rpg) while shooting 39.3 percent from 3pt range. Senior Grant Golden adds 14.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Jacob Gilyard is the NCAA all-time steals leader and currently leads the nation with 3.3/game. He also is 13th nationally in assists per game (6.0) and averages 12.7 points per contest.
