DAYTON, Ohio — The George Mason women's basketball team fell to Dayton on Saturday afternoon inside UD Arena.
The Patriots (8-13, 2-7 A-10) could not overcome a hot-shooting performance from the Flyers (18-3, 9-0), falling 84-44 on the road.
Dayton shot 46.6 percent from the floor (34-73) and made eight three-pointers (.364). The Flyers also won the rebounding battle, 48-38, and forced 22 Patriot turnovers.
Junior Tamia Lawhorne led the Patriots with a team-high 10 points to go along with five rebounds. It marked her second straight game in double figures.
Junior Jazmyn Doster added eight points and a team-high eight boards. She's led the team in rebounding in eight games this year.
Mason struggled offensively, shooting 27.6 percent from the floor (16-58) and just 20.0 percent from three-point range (3-15).
With the score tied (6-6), Dayton finished the first quarter on a 17-0 run to lead by 17 (23-6). The deficit proved too large to overcome as the Flyers cruised to the win, 84-44.
Up next, Mason will face UMass for a rescheduled contest on Friday, Feb. 11 in Amherst, Mass.
