LORETTO, Pa. – The George Mason men's volleyball team (3-3) stumbled in a three-set loss (21-25, 27-29, 19-25) against Saint Francis (3-4) on Friday night inside DeGol Arena.
Saint Francis (Pa.) took the lead early in the first set, forcing a timeout from Mason at 7-12. The Green & Gold were able to string along some strong offensive efforts, but they were not enough to take the match.
"We are showing glimpses of good things, but we are still learning how to win as a young team," stated Head Coach
Jay Hosack. " As soon as we figure out how to match the competitiveness of our opponents, we will have turned the corner and will begin to show the true potential of this team."
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Redshirt sophomore Jack Bolz led the Patriots on Friday, recording a match high 17 kills.
- The opposite Bolz also recorded one service ace, four digs, and a team high 0.438 hitting percentage.
- Redshirt sophomore Chey Cooper helped lead the Patriots with seven kills and two service aces.
- Redshirt junior Zach Talamoa set a team high of 24 assists.
- Sophomore Colin Heath led the team with seven digs. The outside hitter also recorded four kills in the loss.
- Senior libero Trevor Kennan tallied five digs and two assists in one set played.
- Saint Francis (Pa.) outhit Mason, 38.6 percent to the Patriots' 22.6 percent.
- Both teams earned 59 kills each in the match.
- Mason tallied 35 kills to Saint Francis's 42.
- Saint Francis (Pa.) recorded five service aces to Mason's three.
