FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason men's volleyball student-athlete
Chey Cooper has been selected as a recipient of the George Mason OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award, an honor that recognizes outstanding student-athletes for their efforts in the classroom and out in the community.
The Chesapeake, Va. native was honored at the George Mason men's basketball game against George Washington on Sunday.
Chey Cooper serves his team on and off the court, representing the men's volleyball program for the Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Committee. If he is not working hard in the classroom or on the floor, Chey can be found volunteering his time as a coach at The St. James, working with athletes between the ages of 10 and 18 on the fundamentals of volleyball. Additionally, Cooper serves as the assistant coach of for The St. James Volleyball Club's U16 National Team.
A Mason men's volleyball standout, Cooper has tallied 24 kills, 20 digs, three blocks, and four service aces in 15 sets so far during the 2022 season. A Sport Management major with an entrepreneurship minor, Cooper has made the Dean's List for five consecutive semesters. In addition, Chey has been named to the EIVA All-Academic Team for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Definition:
The OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award has been put into place to recognize outstanding student-athletes not just for their athletic performances. The student-athlete can be recognized for anything that they have done that exceptional outside their playing field… whether it be community service, leadership on campus, consistent performance in the classroom, incredible attitude, recovering from a long injury, improvement on the field, etc.
