OLEAN, N.Y. — The George Mason women's basketball team downed St. Bonaventure, 61-50, in its regular season finale on Saturday inside the Reilly Center in Olean, N.Y.
The Patriots finished the regular season with an overall record of 9-18 and Atlantic 10 mark of 3-12.
Sophomore Taylor Jameson tied her career-high 20 points. She made four three-pointers and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Senior J-Naya Ephraim also tied her career-best 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting. She added six rebounds in the victory.
Junior Jazmyn Doster recorded a team-high nine rebounds to go along with seven points while senior Amaya Scott added eight points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals in an all-around performance.
Mason put together a strong offensive showing, shooting 43.6 percent from the field (24-55) and 35.3 percent from deep (6-17). The Patriots posted 13 assists on their 24 made field goals. In addition, Mason was +9 in rebounds (36-27) which resulted in 12 second chance points for the Patriots.
Jameson scored Mason's first 10 points of the game as Mason jumped out to a 19-14 lead after the first quarter of play. Jameson then scored five straight to push Mason's lead to five with six minutes remaining in the first half (26-21). The two teams then traded baskets as Mason held a one-point advantage at the break (30-29).
Freshman Paula Suarez and Ephraim came alive in the third quarter for the Patriots. Suarez scored four points as Mason led by five with 7:02 on the clock (37-32). Ephraim then exploded for nine points over nearly five minutes (46-37). Mason led by seven with one quarter remaining (48-41).
St. Bonaventure cut the deficit to five with 6:53 remaining before Scott and Doster notched back-to-back baskets (54-45). The Patriots held on for the victory, taking down the Bonnies, 61-50.
Up next, Mason will compete in the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championships, slated for March 2-6 at the CHASE Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Del.
