FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's volleyball team (4-6) hosts Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, Feb. 25. The match is set for 7 p.m. inside The RAC and will be streamed on ESPN+.
Mason will then host its first EIVA home contest on Saturday, Feb. 26, for a 5 p.m. match inside The RAC.
LAST TIME OUT
Mason is coming off a five set victory (21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 20-25, 15-10) against Queens University of Charlotte (6-6, 2-1 IVA) on Saturday night inside the Recreation Athletic Complex.
Sophomore
Omar Hoyos led the offensive momentum for the Patriots, tallying team highs in kills (18) and service aces (5) while leading the team in hitting percentage (0.438). The outside hitter led the team on the defensive end as well, recording a match high 13 digs.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON (2-6, 0-0 IVA)
The Highlanders are coming off a weekend sweep against D'Youville, with both matches won in three sets. In the first match against the two teams, three sets were won in three points or less (25-23, 25-23, 25-22). The second match between the two teams were won by the Knights by a larger margin (25-15, 25-15, 25-21).
The Knights are led offensively by freshman Jack Lydon. The outside hitter leads the team with 81 total kills in 26 sets played. He has also tallied six service aces in his freshman campaign.
Freshman Grady Hoffman leads the Knights on the defensive end. The libero has recorded 72 digs in 36 sets played, averaging 2.77 digs per set.
This is the first meeting between the two teams in school history.
PRINCETON (4-8, 3-3 EIVA)
The Tigers are coming off a weekend sweep against EIVA foe Charleston (WVa.). Princeton was able to squeak out a win in four sets (25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19) in the first match. The Tigers were able to sweep Charleston (WVa.) in three sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-20) the following night.
The Tigers are led by sophomore Ben Harrington on both the offensive and defensive ends. The outside hitter has tallied 128 kills in 44 sets played. He also recorded nine assists and 26 service aces so far in the 2022 season. On the defensive end, Harrington has recorded 59 digs and 19 blocks.
The Patriots hold the advantage over the Tigers, leading the all-time series 19-14, with the last meeting between the two teams came in a regular season loss in 2020. Princeton opted out of play last season in accordance to Ivy League protocols.
